Today we are celebrating our Regional Manager, Deb Perkins. Deb has a smile that will light up a room and she has a secret talent for planning amazing trips!

How long have you worked for BDMG?

I have worked for Bird Dog for 15 years! I started testing adults when our oldest daughter, Jordan, was in 4th grade.

Tell us a little bit about your family.

I have been married to my college sweetheart, Mark, for 28 wonderful years! We have 2 beautiful daughters, both have graduated from college and a sweet vizsla puppy named Bella. I grew up in Akron, and per Ancestry.com, my family basically came from Germany, settled in the area and never left. Our daughters may change that!

What is your favorite quote?

I have 2. First and foremost, "Everything happens for a reason." You don't always know what the reason is at the time, but eventually you find out why. The second one is, "It is what it is." I believe in changing what you can, but there are some things in life that just "are." So, go with the flow.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I, honestly, am not sure. I would love to travel the whole world to see different things and experience different cultures. This is kind of like the favorite color question for me - it depends on my mood.

If you were to retire and work at Disney World, what would be your dream job?

I have actually thought about this one, as I've been to Disney so often. Probably to follow in the footsteps of my daughters (both have participated in the Disney College Program) and be a character attendant. Always different and keeps you on your toes!

Do you have a favorite non-profit or organization that you like to volunteer for or support?

I support a variety of non-profits, but it is hard for me to pick a favorite. I appreciate what each one does and always enjoy when we test at a fundraiser for a non-profit to help them out with their goals.

What is the funniest situation you have run in to while doing child-resistant adult package testing?

Every day is an adventure, but probably what makes me laugh is the fact that so many people, myself included, forget their actual age after hitting the big 5-0!

Evolution of Child-Resistant Testing Protocols for Adult-Use Effectiveness

Our test proctors administering adult-use package testing are often asked, “Why are you only testing adults 50-70 years of age?” Here’s the story behind that decision. When the U.S. Congress passed the Poison Prevention Packaging Act of 1970 (PPPA), the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) required child-resistant packaging for specific drugs and household chemicals that could harm children. Package manufacturers developed and introduced new child-resistant packaging to comply with the requirements. Per the PPPA, the specialty packaging required certification that they were child-resistant. At the time, the adult-use effectiveness portion of the package test protocols included adult test subjects 18-45 years of age, a significant change from our current adult-use effectiveness subjects who are 50-70.
