How long have you worked for BDMG?
I have worked with the Lancaster child testing team for over 14 years.
Tell us a little bit about your family.
My husband, Jim, and I will be married for 57 years in September. We have three daughters and 10 wonderful grandchildren. Our oldest is Stephanie and she lives in Vienna, VA with her husband Mark. They have 4 children and Stephanie is Assistant Director of Graduate Enrollment, College of Humanities & Social Science at George Mason University. Our middle daughter, Lauren, is a Dental Hygienist in Charlotte, NC. She and her husband, Mike, have three children. Our daughter, Kristen is living in Erie, PA working in the child-care field, and has three children. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to travel to see most of them this past year due to COVID. Fun fact for those of you who are familiar with the Lancaster area, Jim's father and two uncles started the well-known Lancaster restaurant, Lombardo's in 1946.
What are some of your hobbies?
I enjoy entertaining and cooking. During COVID I read tons of books - I enjoy books about WWII, history, and biographies. I also enjoy playing in the local bocci league.
What is your favorite quote?
"To err is human, to forgive divine." ~ Alexander Pope.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Jim and I have been fortunate to travel to Italy many times. Jim has family in the southern parts of Italy but we have been all over the country and would love to go again. We have been to Budapest, Hungary several times and would love to travel there again.
What is your dream for retirement?
I started working for BDMG when I retired! I would travel back to Italy in a heartbeat!
Do you have a favorite non-profit or organization that you like to volunteer for or support?
Prior to Covid, I volunteered at the Brown Bag Lunch at St. Anne's Catholic Church and I look forward to getting back there soon. Over the years, I have raised money by using my culinary skills for a variety of organizations including the Elks Club and Wounded Warriors.
What is the funniest situation you have run into while doing child-resistant package testing?
Lots of them! I love to make the children laugh. I've been known to have some fun by marching like a soldier with the kids following me - you have to be creative when you're working with the kids!
Stephany, thank you for sharing your story! We appreciate your giving us a peek into your life and why you are such a special member of our team!
